What’s New With Wounds!

Wound Management Specialist | See All Posts

I love working with Wounds. As a Student Nurse in the 1980s, I  was fascinated with how a complex wound could successfully heal with diligent care. I have continued my love of Wound Management and have enjoyed teaching and sharing knowledge about wounds in my professional roles as a Director of Nursing, Clinical Administrator and via the Nursing CPD Institute.

More Info

Despite the passing of time and regardless of location ( I’ve been blessed to be able to lecture around Australia and overseas on Wound Care) Nurses are practical people and  really prefer to ‘cut to the chase’ with wound care and  focus on the ‘key bits they need to know’ to be able to do the task at hand. Nurses remain generally time-poor and often resource-restricted.

I look forward to sharing up to date news on wound care along with tips and downloads for you to use in your workplace.

There are also  CPD wound care activities in the Members section of the Nursing CPD Institute including webinars and quizzes.

I welcome your comments and hearing about your wound tips and wound care experiences!

Til next time!

Training Capability

Facilitators at Training Capability | See All Posts

After studying for years and then beginning your clinical career, it is unlikely you pictured yourself managing people and money.  While for some it is personal choice many clinicians end up (either by fate, seniority or some form of coercion) to be responsible for a cost centre. The need to become more financially literate and work toward achieving financial sustainability is essential in driving the business improvements across the health services – both private and public. Improving your understanding of the basic concepts of finance, internal controls, team development etc. will give you an enormous opportunity to be more confident in managing your cost centre. At Training Capability, we provide a range of options to expand your business skills and acumen.

John Allen B.Bus CPA ACFE

John Allen is a Certified Practicing Accountant with 25 years’ experience in senior and executive government roles.

At age 31 John reached his accounting career goal acting as Chief Finance Officer for Queensland Department of Premier and Cabinet, it was at this point he realised his passion was for people rather than just numbers.

John then moved into specialising in learning and development in the Department of Health with the aim of increasing the financial capability of cost centre managers, business managers and clinicians and allied health staff.  While doing this role John also worked as a senior accountant delivering annual financial statements for 12 years.

This extensive background in implementing government financial reforms and managing the financial operations for government departments sets John apart from other executive coaches and leadership trainers as he can deliver practical financial and governance training from real-world experience.

As Director in Training Capability since 2012, John is contracted by numerous private and public hospital and health services to deliver finance and leadership training to improve the financial capability of clinicians and cost centre managers.  The enhancement in the financial capability of cost centre managers has, in turn, led to positive financial turnarounds for hospital and health services.

As an experienced facilitator and management consultant, John has drawn on his extensive practical expertise to customise training programs including;
  • understanding accounting and finance
  • leadership
  • governance
  • developing key performance indicators
  • budget management
  • risk management
  • fraud awareness, and
  • savings strategies.

Elizabeth Wilmot  BA, Grad Dip Ed, GCM, GAID

Elizabeth has been involved in education for over 30 years. Her experience includes primary and secondary teaching, adult literacy, tutoring, executive professional development, coaching and developing high performing teams.

In addition to teaching, Elizabeth has experience across a broad range of industries, including defence, education, professional membership, retail and business development.

In recent years Elizabeth has focused on developing health services individuals and teams to achieve their potential and fostering a positive culture by exploring the benefits of diversity in thinking preferences and improving business skills.

A key achievement for Elizabeth was the implementation and facilitation of a Chief Finance Officer Network bringing together 15 individuals from around Queensland to form a collective problem-solving unit – taking advantage of the wide range of skills, knowledge and experience of individuals to benefit the group and the organization.

Elizabeth has a passion for linking training to achieving business outcomes. Previous roles as a trainer and business development manager highlighted that too often staff are not engaged in the business and have significant misconceptions about the challenges facing business – and business owners. Communication to employees, particularly around change, is regularly not clearly articulated to those responsible for implementing the change – with resulting frustrations for both management and staff.

Armed with the firm conviction that workplace training should always be directly linked to the organisation’s objectives, Elizabeth strives to develop and present quality, relevant and entertaining training for employees with a clear focus on increasing the capability and effectiveness of the organisation.

Hi, I am Veet Karen. I have been a healthy vegetarian for over three decades and along the way, I have educated myself on how to eat as healthy as I possibly can. I established a catering business seven years ago ‘Veet’s Cuisine” to following my passion of cooking incredibly healthy and creative vegetarian cuisine. Prior to that, I was a care worker for people with disabilities for eight years and a teacher for twelve years.

More Info

This year I married my teaching skills with my cooking skills and founded Australia’s first organic vegan chef and lifestyle training. I have a wealth of knowledge to share with you all on how to stay healthy as a vegetarian as well as some great ideas on how to really listen to what your body wants and needs to eat. Even if you are not vegetarian the recipes are always well received by meat eaters too. I have catered and facilitated on two of the nurses for nurses retreats and must admit these retreats are at the top of my list of my fave jobs.
